We would like to introduce you to Ainslie School.

Ainslie School is historically significant in the establishment of the National Capital of Australia.  Traditions are important to Ainslie; for instance our school song was written by C.S. Daley, a well known figure in the early days of Canberra. Our traditions give our students a sense of 'belonging' to a unique school with an important role in the history of Canberra.

The aims of Ainslie School form the basis of everything that we do.  Parents play a significant role in every aspect of school life at Ainslie.  Open Communication is of prime importance at Ainslie. Our Newsletter, The Altiora, provides parents with regular and up-to-date information. Individual interviews are welcomed at any time throughout the year.  A warm welcome awaits all new enrolments at Ainslie. Special class 'buddies' help new children settle in quickly.

Parents are invited to make a voluntary contribution to the school each year if they feel they are able to do so. This financial contribution goes directly into the school budget to assist in the purchase of resources to support the learning programs for all children in the school.
Parent representatives on the School Board and P & C Association are directly involved in allocating these funds. These contributions have been instrumental in providing the school with information technology and Library resources, as well as assisting in the purchase of valuable resources to enhance the school's Literacy, Maths and Science programs. Contributions have also been used to enhance the playground area of the school.  The school hours have been organised to fit in with optimising effective learning periods and with bus timetables.

The Library and Information Resource Centre is the focal point within the school. From the earliest years children are given encouragement and the opportunity to develop skills to enable them to utilise the Resource Centre for their learning, accessing of information and for enjoyment.

Our Ainslie School Assemblies form an important part of communication, acknowledgement and sharing between all members of the school community - parents are warmly invited to share these occasions with students and teachers.
Organisation of classes is determined by the policies of the ACT Department of Education and bearing in mind the traditional structures of the school buildings. Class placement is made with input from parents and teachers. Parents are able to share with the school their special understanding and knowledge of their own child.
The school encourages the wearing of school uniform wherever possible, with a number of options available to assist in this.

An excellent After School program is available for the benefit of our students. Ainslie After School Care organises a number of quality activity programs.

The School Canteen is run by a sub committee of the P& C for the purpose of providing healthy and nutritional food for students at the school. The Canteen is open at morning tea and lunch time Monday to Friday. Lunch orders can be placed in the classroom basket. Price lists are included in various school Newsletters or are available from the Front Office or Canteen.
