Science
Ainslie values the role of science in the education program. Science is seen as an integral part of daily life rather than belonging solely to the laboratory. It is believed that a knowledge of science is necessary for all students so they can understand the world in which they live, value the systems and processes that support life on our planet, and take an active role in society. Ainslie maintains an extensive collection of practical science teaching resources and avails itself of the excellent scientific facilities available in Canberra.
Each year Ainslie enters the ACT Science Competition and individuals and class groups have received awards. Various class groups also visit the Science Week interactive displays at the National Convention Centre.
From time to time Ainslie arranges visits to Questacon, CSIRO and ANU Science centres. This enables classes to augment their classroom studies with excellent hands-on experiences.
Students are encouraged to demonstrate the ability to think and express themselves creatively in scientific contexts, employ divergent thinking, develop confidence and competence in an increasingly technological world, and use the skills of science for problem solving in their everyday life.
