Student Management Process

Student management protocol followed by Ainslie teachers in class situations
1. Teacher reminds student of expectation (initially unobtrusively with a signal, look or pause)
2. If unsuccessful, teacher gives student a rule reminder and choice
3. If continues, student has classroom timeout for a period of time appropriate to age of student(asked to fill in a timeout/action plan)
4. If reoccurs student has timeout in another class(teacher informs executive staff and parents if frequent)
5. Executive staff give support to student and teacher where required

Student management protocol followed by Ainslie teachers in playground situations
1. Teacher reminds student of expectation (initially unobtrusively with a signal, look or pause)
2. If unsuccessful, teacher gives student a rule reminder and choice
When timeout is required on the playground the student is asked to sit for a period of time on a bench before resuming play.  Executive staff give support to student and teacher where required.

R & R - Removal and Reflection
There maybe times when a student is asked to go to 'R&R'.  This is a lunchtime timeout and is in a classroom supervised by a teacher. A record of students attending R&R and the reason is recorded. Parents are contacted if attendance is frequent. This step is taken for the following reasons:
1. out of bounds on the playground (a warnng and reminder is given)
2. aggressive behaviour (verbal or physical)-executive staff are informed of all incidents
3. bullying behaviour

In-school suspension/working out of class for a period
This is a consequence for serious inappropriate behaviour and is negotiated with the student's parents.  The student is supervised by the Deputy Principal or Principal.  The student's return to class is negotiated and a plan is made.

Out of school suspension
This is a step done in full consultation with the student, parents and Director of schools.
