Student Representative Council
The Canberra College SRC has a long history of student-based representation at all levels of school activity. The SRC has successfully undertaken many ventures and continues to represent the student body and the needs of the school at internal and external events. Some of the tasks successfully undertaken in recent years have been things such as lobbying for the 40km/hour school zone sign at the front of the College along Launceston Street to improve safety for students. In addition, the current SRC is working to improve healthy eating habits and promote long-term goals of good health. SRC members have completed Peer Support and Resilience training, in addition to attending a variety of leadership conferences, including Youth Leadership ACT. They will participate in the National Youth Roundtable to be held at Parliament House later in the year.In addition, the SRC provides a range of fun, school-based activities to promote a sense of community within the College. This is done via such things as Big Breakfasts (free cooked breakfasts offered twice a year), as well as Market Days and Band Days. Each year the SRC also decamps to the coast for three days to continue working on rolling Five Year Plans (of the non-Stalinist variety!) and to ensure a smooth handover to each year’s new SRC membership. The Canberra College SRC participates in College Board decision-making and members are regularly consulted for a student point of view in decision-making about things such as timetables, school beautification and college promotion.
Underpinning the work of the SRC are the Canberra College Code and its principles of respect, natural justice, individuality, honesty and equality.
