Years 5 and 6
In term 4, our five year 5/6 classes investigated bridges. We discovered the six main types of bridges and looked at the history of bridge building. Engineers have invented new methods of building to make bridges that are longer and safer.
We discovered:
ð You can make bridges out of several materials, as long as the design is good
ð The names of different bridges
ð There is a difference between building a bridge with a decorated top and a real suspension bridge
ð Beam bridges are often the strongest type
ð Suspension bridges are hard to build because when we tried, they became beam bridges
ð How long it takes to build a real bridge and how much effort it takes
ð Bridge building is a difficult task
ð How many different types of bridges there are
ð How important it is to rule a straight line straight
ð Different names of the different styles of bridges
ð There are six main types of bridges
ð A fantastic internet site that let us design and test our own bridges
During our Bridge Bonanza we visited each others classrooms and asked each other questions about our bridges.
Some of our buddies came to visit us to see our work. We showed them our plans so they could plan their model fun parks.
If we had time, we would try to build a more difficult type of model bridge, rather than just beam bridges. We would also try to build longer model bridges, because it would be a challenge.
Below are just a few photos of some of our bridges...
