F A S C I N A T I N G    F A C E S

Portraits are pictures which are made to celebrate and remember special or important people. Portraits can be paintings, photos, drawings or sculptures. We learnt how to draw realistic faces and then made portraits of people who are special to us using water colour pencils on paper. We planned the backgrounds of our portraits to show how and why these people are so special to us.

Artist: Brendon
Portrait of Dad,
water colour pencil on paper,
May 2003.

My dad is special to me because he is the one that usually takes me to the movies, golfing and fishing.

I chose to make it like this because my dad is a fire fighter and he likes to hunt in the bush and fish in rivers, lakes or seas, especially in our home country, Canada.

Artist: Cedrik
Portrait of Adam,
water colour pencil on paper,
May 2003.

I made this portrait of my friend to show people that he is a special person. I drew the animals in the background because he likes nature. I want people to think that he is a good friend and I like him.

Portrait of My Father,
water colour pencil on paper,
May 2003.

I made this portrait of my father because he is the one that usually takes me fishing and to the movies. That is why he is special to me. I chose to have a blue background to represent the sea because half the time my dad is at the coast. The fish represent his love of fishing.

Artist: Robert
Portrait of Willem
coloured pencils on paper
May, 2003.

I have done a picture of Willem, a good friend of mine. In the portrait I have surrounded Willem with all the things he likes to do. He is a very active boy and a lot of fun to do things with.

Portrait of my father

I did this portrait of my father because he is really special to me. I made a world behind him because he has experienced  more things than me in the world.

May, 2003

My portrait is my first girl friend, Nadia, that’s why my background has hearts. I met her when I moved to Thailand for two years because my dad got a job there. I was in kindergarten when we met. We were best friends and we played together a lot then we both moved and never saw each other again.

Title: My Mum

May, 2003

This is a picture of my mother, Gail. I drew this picture because I think of her every day at school and I love her. In the background I put love hearts because she loves me and I drew books because she loves reading. I coloured in blue for the background as it is her favourite colour.

Artist:  Clementine
Title: Myfanwy
Water colour pencils on paper.

I drew Myf because she is a great friend. The horses in the background are because she loves them and is a great rider. I also drew flowers and trees because she loves nature and has a farm.

Title: My dad
water colour pencils on paper
May,  2003

My portrait is of my dad. He is a generous person, does good deeds and helps me with a lot of work. He keeps me going, leading me to higher goals. He always teaches me more of my native language, Sri Lankan. I drew the background because he likes astronomy and nature.

Artist: Sarah

Title: My Godfather
water colour pencil on paper
May,  2003

I decided to draw my Godfather because he passed away last year and I wanted to always remember him. My Godmother gave me the teddy bear after he died because she knew he always wanted me to have it. The cross represents the one he gave me for my christening

Artist: Anne-Candie
Title: My sister, Aurelie
Water colour pencils on paper
May,  2003

I chose hearts for the background because I love my sister, even though she is sometimes annoying. Her dress is blue because that is her favourite colour.
