Early Childhood Education – Giralang Pre-school
Giralang Preschool operates from within the Giralang Primary School building and is an integral part of the school. The preschool has a separate, fenced, play area (brand new!), its own entrance and toilets so that it can be self-contained, particularly at the beginning of the year, when preschoolers are adjusting to school.
The Preschool enjoys excellent resources, built up by the Parents Association over the years. These include toys, equipment, books and educational resources, audiovisual equipment (including computers for student use) and a purpose-built playground.
The Preschool is able to access all facilities within the primary school and benefits from inclusion within the school setting. Activities such as visits from ‘buddies’ in a mentoring program, transitional visits throughout the year, inclusion within and strong links and sharing within the junior school assist with a smooth and easy transition from preschool to primary school.
As well as a mainstream class, Giralang Preschool is also home to an early intervention unit and autism intervention unit.
Giralang Early Intervention Unit (EIU)
The Giralang EIU is one of nine such units operating across Canberra. The EIU provides early intervention for three and four-year-old children who have been identified as having general developmental delays or mild disabilities.
Giralang Autism Intervention Unit (AIU)
Giralang Primary School is home to one of only three Autism Early Intervention Units in the ACT.
The unit provides specialised early intervention for children aged three and four with autism spectrum disorders.
