School Board
The school board helps foster productive relationships between the parents and the school. Board members require no previous experience. There are:

  • three elected parent members
  • two elected teacher members
  • the Principal of the school
  • an independent community representative

Parents and teacher representatives are elected for two years. The chair of the School Board is elected at the first meeting of the school year. The chair can be one of the three elected parent members or the community appointee.

The functions of the Board as outlined in the Education Act are to:

  • determine the educational policies to be implemented at the school;
  • assess the needs of the school regarding buildings and facilities; equipment, funds, teachers and other staff and make recommendations to the Department of Education with respect to the meeting of those needs;
  • determine the purpose for which school funds are to be expended;
  • make recommendations to the Department of Education and Training regarding the use of school buildings, facilities and equipment for purposes other than school purposes;
  • develop relationships between the school and the community and between the school and community organisations;
  • make recommendations to the Department of Education and Training on matters relating to the school; and carry out such other functions as the Ministry confers upon the board.
