Formal Assemblies

A formal School Assembly chaired  by the Captains and Vice-Captains is held once a fortnight providing opportunities for students and staff to celebrate the achievements of groups and individuals attending the School,  to give students practice in speaking formally in front of a large audience, to provide an opportunity for groups such as the Band, Drama or dance groups to perform for their peers, to provide a forum for visiting speakers to address the School, and to provide information about forthcoming events.  The successes and achievements of students are celebrated and a culture of connectedness to a whole school community is built.

Presentation Night

This occasion acknowledges the achievements of students throughout the school in the academic and sporting spheres and for school service. The parents of all students are invited to be present on this night.

School Socials

The SRC organises socials for students one per term. All socials are restricted to current students of Lyneham High and tickets must be pre-purchased from the school. Profits raised from socials are used by the SRC for various projects in the school. Socials are well supported by staff and are actively supervised at all times. Parents are requested to deliver and collect their child to the Social.  Students are advised not to bring valuable or dangerous items and are not permitted to leave the social prior to the usual finishing time of 10pm unless they are collected by a parent.  A breathalyser may be used at the discretion of the Principal and Social coordinator. Socials are usually attended by upwards of 400 students. Parents will be contacted that evening, if students purchase a ticket and do not attend the Social. Problems are rare as a security guard is employed for the evening. The vast majority of students realise that socials can only be run with the goodwill of teachers, whose attendance on these occasions is voluntary.

House System

Each student is allocated to one of four Houses, named after early explorers of Australia.  These are:

  • Blaxland     (green)
  • Hume         (red)
  • Mitchell       (blue)
  • Sturt          (yellow)

Roll Call Groups are organized in House groups.  House Captains and Vice-Captains are elected by the students at the beginning of each year.  Students compete for their House in the Swimming, Athletics and Cross-Country Running carnivals held each year.
