Message from Principal School Board P & C Association SRC School Facilities: College Campus School Facilities: High School Campus MCSS School Board Report 2008

School Board

In 2009, members of the MCSS School Board:

  • Parent members - Graig Gammack
  • Departmental nominee - Marietta Le Grande
  • Principal - Michael Battenally
  • Teacher representative - Mary Arnold , Sharon Quinn
  • Student representatives - Connor Drum and Emily Warwick

The Board meets at 6.15PM on the second Wednesday night every month, just before the P and C Association meeting.

The School Board plays an essential role in the overall management of Melba Copland Secondary School. It is involved in setting and managing the overall strategic direction of the school through the following activities:

  • policy making related to all areas of school activity;
  • establishing priorities and directions for the school, particularly through the School Development Plan;
  • setting broad policy objectives for the school curriculum;
  • identifying school development needs and setting priorities for expenditure;
  • being involved in the selection of the school principal; and
  • fostering links with the community.

The Board works very closely with the principal, teaching staff and students in carrying out these functions. It is clearly a key avenue for parents and other members of the community to have their input into the way the school operates. For this reason, anyone who has issues they wish to be considered, or wishes to have an input into any aspect of the school's operations, is encouraged to make contact with one of the parent members on the Board. At Melba, we also believe it is very important for students to contribute through the two student representatives on the Board.

Please contact the school if you have any questions about its operation.
