International Student Program (IPS) at Melrose High School

Melrose High School is a school of choice for many International Students (IPS) in the ACT.  The students mainly come from China/Hong Kong, South Korea, Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos and Japan in order to pursue their academic success in mastering English in particular.  On arrival at Melrose High School, each student is buddied with a fellow student, and a series of orientation is provided.  The student’s level of English is assessed for the purpose of devising individual program.  IPS Coordinator and the executive teacher of the Languages/ESL will offer individual assistance to IPS students in every aspect of school life.  Support from the Department’s International Education Unit (IEU) is also available at all times. Subjects specific to IPS include:

At the end of each term, students are assessed on their level of English to determine if they are ready to participate in mainstream classes.

Facilities

IPS rooms are located in 208 and 213.

Students recently arrived from overseas for their study abroad use the designated room for classes, and at times, during recess and lunch breaks.  Amenities include a television, video, DVD, microwave oven, refrigerator, tables and chairs.  A wide range of board games is also available as a leisure activity.
